WINE

BUXUS DE LES AUBAGUES

Is a wine with a classification of Village Wine specifically from the village of Bellmunt – Vi de Vila de Bellmunt del Priorat. It has been made with 75% of the oldest carinyena (carignan) we have (planted in 1954) and 25% of garnatxa (red grenache) planted in 1999. The carinyena is planted as a bush/goblet vine directly on the slope (the traditional way) and the land is tended to with the use of a mule whereas the grenache is planted on terraces double cordon royal style. Harvest time, after a careful selection of grapes all the fermentation process is done in the stainless-steel vats. The aging process is done partly in large barrels and partly in new barrels over the period of approx. 12 months.

TASTING NOTE

Deep ruby colour. Complex nose; cocoa, violets and dark plum. In the mouth – great acidity, balsamic notes, lively with a nice finish.

ELEPHANT ILUSTRATION LABEL

The image on the label is a representation of two ideas. One is a Boxwood shrub (Buxus sempervirens) which grows on the slopes around the Aubages vineyard. The other is topiary – a skill used in gardening – giving different shapes to shrubs and small trees through meticulous pruning. Therefore, the image of a gardener shaping an elephant from a boxwood shrub is a metaphor for the painstaking and lengthy process that accompanied me in my journey as a grape-grower and a winemaker.
